Gathering friends and family together to watch the Super Bowl can become a fun tradition to look forward to. Here are three tasty appetizer recipes that will tempt any football fan.

  • Spicy Pecans (or mixed nuts)

    2 tablespoons butter, melted

    1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

    1/4 teaspoon ground red pepper

    1/4 teaspoon salt

    1/4 teaspoon garlic powder

    2 cups pecan halves or mixed nuts

    1 tablespoon chili powder


    Preheat oven to 300 degrees F.

    In a medium bowl, mix butter, Worcestershire, red pepper, salt, and garlic powder.

    Stir in the nuts, and gently toss with chili powder to coat.

    Spread coated nuts on a medium baking sheet, and cook 30 minutes in the preheated oven, stirring approximately every 10 minutes.

    Spicy meatballs

    1 cup barbecue sauce

    1/4 cup Worcestershire Sauce

    1/4 cup molasses or honey

    36 frozen meatballs


    Combine barbecue sauce, Worcestershire and molasses in large skillet. Heat to a boil.

    Stir in meatballs. Simmer, covered, about 10 min. until meatballs are heated through. Stir often.

    Serve meatballs with party picks, pretzel sticks or double the recipe and place in slow cooker to stay warm.

    Hot spinach dip

    2 teaspoons olive oil, plus more for baking dish

    1 medium onion, diced

    2 garlic cloves, minced

    2 pounds spinach, cleaned, trimmed, and coarsely chopped

    1/2 cup milk

    6 ounces reduced-fat cream cheese

    3 dashes Worcestershire sauce

    3 dashes Tabasco sauce

    3/4 cup shredded mozzarella

    salt and ground pepper


    Preheat oven to 425 degrees.

    In a Dutch oven or large pot, heat oil over medium.

    Add onion and garlic; cook until lightly browned, 5 to 8 minutes.

    Add spinach, cook until completely wilted, 5 to 8 minutes.

    Transfer to a colander; drain, pressing to release all excess liquid.

    In the same pot, warm milk over high heat.

    Whisk in cream cheese until melted, about 3 minutes.

    Add spinach, Worcestershire sauce, hot sauce, and 1/4 cup mozzarella; stir to combine.

    Season with salt and pepper.

    Pour into a lightly oiled 1 1/2-quart shallow baking dish; sprinkle with remaining 1/2 cup mozzarella.

    Bake until bubbly and golden brown, 20 to 25 minutes. Serve hot with baguette slices, breadsticks, and crackers.
