Studio City Neighborhood Council President John Walker was appointed Tuesday to the city’s Quality and Production Commission which will help improve productivity and work measurement within the city government.
Walker was appointed to the position after a meeting with Mayor Eric Garcetti and Los Angeles City Councilman Paul Krekorian.
“I’m very happy to be part of this commission, it’s a chance to help improve some of the city services,” Walker told Examiner.
Walker said he hopes to improve the public’s experience with agencies such as the sanitation department and the Department of Water and Power, as well as getting quick responses on the city 311 information line.
He does still plan to serve out his latest term that he was just elected to on the Studio City Neighborhood Council, and the election for specific office seats will take place at the next board meeting on April 16 at 7 p.m. at the CBS Radford Studios (see: studiocitync.org/calendar). All are welcome to the meeting
The 15-seat commission has a mission to improve the responsiveness, efficiency, and quality of services delivered by the City of Los Angeles to the public. How does the Commission do this? By Lowering Costs, Reducing Waste & Redundancy - Increasing accountability through highlighting City Controller Audits - Working with agencies and Elected Officials to improve efficiency & responsiveness By Fostering a Commitment to Excellence & Quality - Annual Quality & Productivity Awards to highlight employee achievements in efficiency improvements - Following up on Employee Suggestions to improve efficiency & responsiveness - Highlighting and sharing best practices
“I already have some ideas that I want to bring up to help improve certain things,” Walker said.

Krekorian attended the last Studio City Neighborhood Council meeting and hinted at the appointment. “There was a feeling of disengagement by people in the San Fernando Valley, and its Neighborhood Councils like this and community leaders like this that gets a voice in City Hall,” Krekorian said.
Longtime Neighborhood Council member Remy Kessler said, “John Walker is one of the most effective presidents of any Neighborhood Council and he has been able to get amazing speakers to our meetings. It is because of John that we get the attention from the city like we do.”
